The Leading Index (LI) which monitors the economic performance in advance decreased 1.5% in November 2011. The LI dropped to 111.2 points from 112.9 points recorded in the previous month.
The main components that contributed to the decrease were Real Imports of Semi Conductors
(-0.6%), Real Imports of Other Basic Precious and Other Non-ferrous Metal (-0.5%) and Real Money Supply, M1 (-0.3%). The annual change of the LI in November 2011 declined to 0.7% compared with 2.4% in the previous month.
The Coincident Index (CI), which measures the current economic activity, grew by 0.7% in November 2011. The main components that contributed to the increase were Real Salaries & Wages in Manufacturing Sector, Real Contributions to EPF and Capacity Utilisation in Manufacturing Sector which respectively recorded 0.2%.
The annual change of the CI increased to 1.8% in November 2011 compared with 1.6% in the previous month. The growth for both the LI and CI moderate in the reference month. On the contrary, the level of Diffusion Index for LI remains above 50.0% indicates that the economy will continue to expand albeit at a slower pace in the near term.
