I am writing this particular article specifically to correct the misinformation regarding the so called conferment of Datukship to Datuk Shahrin Zahari by the state of Melaka. It seems that the perception among the myriad of commentators in blogosphere is that Melaka, under the governorship of Tun Khalil Yaakob, had cheaply given away titles to undeserving people.
I am pleased to note that Datuk Shahrin Zahari did NOT receive his DMSM, an award which carries the title of Datukship from the Melaka state. I have taken the initiative to get the confirmation from the office of Melaka State Secretary and was informed that this person by the name Datuk Shahrin Zahari had not received his title from Tun Khalil Yaakob.
Furthermore, I was informed that the bestowment of titles is the prerogative of His Excellency and he has delligently observed the stipulated guidelines. Among others, the minimum age for the recipient of DMSM is set at 40 years old. Therefore, the said person is not eligible to be considered as a recipient according to this requirement.
It is unfortunate that the wrong perception centred on this person had inadvertently tarnished the good reputation of historic Melaka and her benevolent and most popular Governor.
